I have talked to him recently and I tried to put our differences aside about the whole chat thing. I wasn't real apologetic, but my main point is nothing I did was directed at hurting him (links, etc)- he chose to take it that way. The links in our signatures were to promote the chatroom we had built, not hurt him. He did say if anyone linked back to BBB Chat they would be banned immediately. That's his choice, as it is his site. The same could be said for me, my rules, my site (don't worry). I have a thread just for links. It was always my understanding that he would take it back over and we were just keeping it going.
He did sound very strung out from working so much, and said it was no longer fun to do. Unfortunately that's what happens when you make your hobby a business. I know, I did it with golf. I was always thinking, promoting, I couldn't concentrate on the sport anymore becuase I was hoping to sell this guy something. I'm sure that's exactly what's going on with him. Right now he has what he has created. If he didn't have the "Cab Business" he could afford to have other sites take some of the load off and share a bit. Since he does, he NEEDS to be a monopoly, otherwise he's losing business. That's only good business sense. From that standpoint I can understand being protective about things, as your livelyhood is on the line.
Personally, I give him a thumbs up for making something out of his opportunity. Who wouldn't if they couldnt? I mean if my place exploded I 'd be thinking about caps and t'shirts too. But I have 19 members not 50,000+, so it's a non issue.
By the way I'm NOT trying to start something again, just trying to get a people talking.
